Click, click, click, in time with the wheel, getting faster as you speed up and vanishing when you straighten out.
A wheel bearing does not do this. It does not care what angle the wheel is pointed at, only how much load it is carrying.
Then repeat the circle the other way. A worn outer joint usually clicks harder on one lock than the other.

Look before you listen
The fastest check on this whole comparison needs no driving at all.
Turn the wheel to full lock and look behind it at the rubber boot on the driveshaft. You are looking for splits, tears, or grease flung around the inside of the wheel arch.
The joint is packed with grease and sealed. Once the boot splits, grease leaves and grit arrives.
The joint is then on a short clock, so a split boot plus clicking is a CV joint with very little doubt.
Grease on the inside of the wheel is the giveaway most people walk past. Nothing else at that corner throws grease outward like a spinning torn boot.
The noises, described honestly
A worn outer CV joint clicks. Sharp, repeated, tied to wheel rotation, loudest at full lock under light power.
A worn inner joint tends to shudder or clunk under acceleration rather than click. It can feel like a vibration through the floor.
A failing bearing hums, drones or growls. Continuous rather than repeated, and it rises in pitch with road speed.

Where the confusion is legitimate
Two situations genuinely blur the CV axle or wheel bearing question, and it is worth saying so.
A badly worn CV joint at speed can produce a broader whirring rather than clean clicks, which starts to resemble a hum.
A very loose bearing lets the hub move, which upsets the joint angle and can make a healthy joint start clicking.
The second one matters. Fixing the bearing sometimes silences a joint that seemed to be the problem.
Doing both at the same time is often the sensible call.
