Why the conflicts are real
Thick base oil holds a film under heavy slow load. Thin base oil reduces churning and flows at low temperature.
A grease cannot be at both ends of that at once, which is why a shelf of similar tubs contains genuinely different products.
The same applies to the thickener. Calcium sulfonate resists water strongly, lithium complex is the mainstream all rounder, and polyurea suits speed.
The filter that narrows the best wheel bearing grease question
Before comparing anything, apply one test.
The automotive grease standard grades wheel bearing greases in three levels, with GC the highest. A tub carrying the GC mark has passed leakage, heat life and wear testing that an uncertified tub has not.
Plenty of products with confident labels carry no certification at all. Multi purpose, premium and heavy duty are words rather than results.

The numbers worth reading
Four figures on a data sheet, and each answers a specific question.
Dropping point. Where the structure fails entirely. Useful as a ceiling, not as an operating figure.
Water washout percentage. How much grease a heated water spray removes from a spinning bearing.
Base oil viscosity. Higher for heavy slow loads, lower for speed and cold.
NLGI grade. Consistency, not quality. Grade 2 is the wheel bearing norm.

What does not help you choose
Color is dye. Red, blue and green tell you about the brand and nothing about performance.
Price correlates loosely at best, and a certified mid price grease outperforms an uncertified premium one.
Tackiness feels reassuring and is a formulation choice, not a measure of protection.
The part that matters more than the choice
Worth saying plainly, because it outweighs everything above.
A correct grease left in place for six years loses to an ordinary grease serviced annually. Most bearing failures trace to neglect or contamination rather than to formulation.
