The short version
- An Expedition wheel bearing on a 2011 to 2014 four wheel drive splits on how long the ABS wire is.
- 515142 is cited for the 38 inch cord and 515166 for the 40.75 inch cord, on the same year and the same drivetrain.
- The rear was missing from this page for every year it covers. It now runs from a solid axle set in 1997 to a hub number in 2017.
- 2018 and 2019 sit past every catalog checked for this page, front and rear alike.
This is the only vehicle on the site where the deciding detail is the length of a piece of cable.
Ford ran two sensor harness lengths through the same production years, and the hub is sold with the cord attached. Order the short one for a truck that needs the long one, and it will not reach.
The ABS cord length split
On 2011 to 2014 four wheel drive trucks, 515142 is cited with a 38 inch cord. 515166 is cited with a 40.75 inch cord.
The listings look otherwise identical. Year, drivetrain and trim will not tell them apart.
Measure from the hub face to the connector on the part being removed. Two and three quarter inches is the whole difference, and it is enough to strand a job halfway through.
The drivetrain split
515157 and 515158 are cited for 2015 to 2017, two wheel drive and four wheel drive.
515094 and 515095 cover 2007 to 2010 the same way. 515143 is the 2011 to 2014 two wheel drive number.
Before 2003 the split runs differently. The two wheel drive front used a serviceable tapered bearing and race rather than a hub assembly, on a catalog line shared with the F-150.
The 2000 model year alone carries two front hub numbers by wheel bolt pattern, 515004 for M12 bolts and 515031 for M14. That split sits inside the four wheel drive rows only.

Lookups run through the cross reference page.
Every model year this chart resolves: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. A 2018 or 2019 Expedition sits past the catalogs and goes by the old part or the VIN.
Before 2003 the rear is a solid axle. The catalogs sell a seal and a cylindrical bearing for it, not a hub number, and this page carried none of them before now.
From 2003 the rear becomes a bolt on hub assembly, and a real number covers every year from there to 2017.
The rear is a different animal
A solid axle bearing sits inside the axle housing rather than bolting to a knuckle. That is why the pre 2003 rear needs a seal and a bearing rather than one part number.
The difference between the two designs is explained on the axle bearing page, and the front versus rear split generally is on the front versus rear page.
From 2003 onward the rear runs its own number series, 541001 through 541015, entirely separate from the front’s 515 family.
Weight and what it tows
This is a full size body on frame truck carrying three rows of seats. Weight is the largest single factor in hub life.
Most of them tow as well. A conventional hitch sits behind the rear axle and levers load forward onto the front hubs, which is where these fail. That pattern is covered on the failure page.
Diagnosing an Expedition wheel bearing
- Confirm the drivetrain, then measure the sensor cord on a 2011 to 2014 four wheel drive.
- Scan for wheel speed codes, since the sensor is part of the hub.
- Weave at road speed and note which side loads the noise.
- Rock the wheel at twelve and six, expecting a stiff feel.
- Compare hub heat across the front axle after towing.
Those steps are on the checking page.

Common questions
Which Expedition wheel bearing fits a 2012 four wheel drive?
Measure the ABS cord. A 38 inch cord is cited as 515142 and a 40.75 inch cord as 515166.
Does the rear use the same kind of part as the front?
Only from 2003 on. Before that the rear is a solid axle with its own seal and bearing, not a hub number.
What covers a 1998 rear?
A seal, 100357, and a cylindrical bearing, R-1561-TV, sold separately for the solid axle.
What about 2018 or 2019?
Neither position is documented in any catalog checked for this page. Match it to the old part or the VIN.
Do I need a press at the front?
No, it is a bolt on unit on every year covered here, but budget time for corroded fasteners.
