The short version
- A Taurus wheel bearing on the SHO splits on the performance package, 513339 with it and 513275 without.
- Every other version of the car from 2010 to 2017 sits on 513275 at the front.
- The 1998 to 2007 cars carry a catalog note that a new spindle nut is required, which is not optional advice.
- All wheel drive on the 2008 to 2009 cars takes 512300 at the rear.
Most of this car’s range is refreshingly simple. One number covers the front for eight model years, and then the fast one complicates it.
The SHO performance package
On 2013 to 2016 SHO models, 513339 is cited with the performance package and 513275 without it.
The package brought bigger brakes, and bigger brakes need a different knuckle and hub.
The Chrysler 300 splits the same way for the same reason, and so does the Mustang on its damper package.

The spindle nut note
The 1998 to 2007 listing carries an explicit note that a new spindle nut is required with the hub.
That nut is deformed on installation to stop it backing off, so it is a single use item.
Reusing one is how a correctly fitted hub still loses clamp load months later. Buy the nut with the part.
Torque and staking are on the torque specs page.
A car with two very different lives
Half of these went to fleets and police forces, and half went to private owners who drove them gently.
Fleet and patrol duty is far harder on hubs than the odometer suggests, so the history matters more than the mileage.
That is on the longevity page, and the make overview is on the Ford page.
Diagnosing a Taurus wheel bearing
- Note the trim, since only the SHO carries the package split.
- Order a new spindle nut with the part on an older car.
- Weave at road speed and note the loaded direction.
- Rock the wheel at twelve and six.
- Ask about fleet history, which changes what is likely.
Those are on the checking page and the tire noise page.
Common questions
Which Taurus wheel bearing do I need?
513275 covers most of the 2010 to 2017 range at the front. The SHO with the performance package takes 513339.
How do I tell if my SHO has the package?
Look at the brakes. The package brought visibly larger rotors and calipers.
Do I really need a new spindle nut?
On the older cars yes. The catalog says so, and the nut is deformed on installation.
Does all wheel drive change the rear?
On the 2008 to 2009 cars yes, 512300.
Do I need a press?
No. The modern cars use bolt on hub units.
Does former police use matter?
Considerably. That duty is much harder on hubs than private mileage.
Should I do both sides?
Only what is worn.
