The short version

  • An SRX wheel bearing on the 2004 to 2009 cars splits on drivetrain. 513197 is rear wheel drive, 513198 all wheel drive.
  • From 2010 the front and rear both sit on 513289, one number for the whole later run.
  • The earlier cars are rear wheel drive based, which is unusual for a crossover and changes what fails.
  • The 2017 XT5 that replaced it moves to 512593. It is a different vehicle entirely.

This model changed character halfway through its life. The first was a rear wheel drive wagon on a sedan platform. The second was a front wheel drive crossover.

That is why the part numbers do not flow from one to the other.

The early cars split on drivetrain

Rear wheel drive and all wheel drive differ

On 2004 to 2009 cars, 513197 is cited for rear wheel drive at the front. 513198 covers all wheel drive.

Look underneath for a front driveshaft before you order.

The later cars simplify

One number, both ends

513289 is cited for both the front and the rear across 2010 to 2016.

That is rare here, and it makes the later cars among the easiest to order for.

What a rear wheel drive crossover changes

On the early cars the rear wheels drive and the front only steer. That is the opposite of most crossovers.

That spreads the work differently. The front hubs carry no driving torque on top of the steering loads, so they last better.

The rear does the driving instead. Noise at the back deserves the attention people usually give the front.

Weight and wheels

These are heavy for their size and most left the factory on large wheels, both of which load a hub.

A larger wheel is a longer lever. It works on the bearing at every speed, not in one event.

Those are on the vehicle weight page and the spacers page. The make overview is on the Cadillac page.

Diagnosing an SRX wheel bearing

  1. Establish the generation, since 2010 changed the vehicle completely.
  2. Check the drivetrain on an earlier car.
  3. Listen at the rear too, because the early cars drive from there.
  4. Weave at road speed and note the loaded direction.
  5. Rock the wheel at twelve and six.

Those are on the checking page and the tire noise page.

Common questions

Which SRX wheel bearing do I need?

On 2010 onward, 513289 covers both ends. On earlier cars, check the drivetrain.

Why do the two generations differ so much?

The early car was rear wheel drive based and the later one was a front wheel drive crossover.

Is the XT5 the same?

No. It is the replacement model and is cited with 512593.

Do the front hubs last longer on the early cars?

They carry no driving torque, so they tend to. Watch the rear instead.

Do large wheels matter?

They add leverage at the hub, so over time yes.

Do I need a press?

No. These use bolt on hub units.

Should I replace both sides?

Only what is worn.

About this page

Wheel Bearing Editorial Team The Wheel Bearing Editorial Team researches, builds and edits wheelbearing.net. Every part number on the site is transcribed from manufacturer and distributor catalogs (Moog, Timken, SKF, National, BCA/NTN) rather than generated, and every vehicle page is checked against the catalog rows before it goes live. When two catalogs disagree, the page shows both readings and tells you to match the old part or the VIN. More about how this site is built.
