The short version
- A Mercedes wheel bearing splits on AMG against ordinary models, and on 4Matic against rear wheel drive.
- The C63 AMG is cited with 512432 then 513360 at the front, separately from every standard C class listing.
- 4Matic cars take 513388 at the front where rear wheel drive cars take 520003.
- Some listings run in a 520 number series, which is a different family from the 512 and 513 numbers used elsewhere.
Mercedes builds more variants of each model than almost anyone, and the hubs follow. Two questions narrow most of it.
AMG is a different car
512432 is cited for the 2012 C63 AMG front and 513360 for 2013 to 2014, with 512433 at the rear.
Standard C class cars of the same years carry entirely different numbers.
That follows from the car. AMG models run wider tracks, larger brakes and far more power through the same corners.
4Matic changes the front
513388 is cited for 4Matic fronts on the C300 and C400, where rear wheel drive C class cars take 520003.
The badge on the trunk lid says 4Matic if the car has it.

The 520 number series
Most numbers on this site begin 512, 513 or 515. Some Mercedes listings begin 520 instead.
That is a different family within the same catalog rather than a different kind of part. It is worth noticing only because a search that assumes the usual prefixes will miss them.
Weight, insulation and late arrivals
These are heavy and built for refinement, which is a poor combination for hearing a bearing early.
The weight loads the hub while the cabin hides the noise. Owners here arrive late as a rule rather than an exception.
Those are on the vehicle weight page and the noise page.
Large wheels and short sidewalls
Most of these left the factory on large diameter wheels, and the AMG models on very large ones.
A taller wheel is a longer lever on the bearing. A short sidewall absorbs less of what the road delivers.
That is on the spacers page and the pothole page.
Diagnosing a Mercedes wheel bearing
- Establish whether it is an AMG before ordering anything.
- Check for a 4Matic badge, since all wheel drive is listed separately.
- Drive with the windows down, because the cabin hides early noise.
- Weave at road speed and note which side loads the noise.
- Rock the wheel at twelve and six.
Those are on the checking page and the tire noise page.
Common questions
How do I choose a Mercedes wheel bearing?
Check whether it is an AMG, then whether it is 4Matic. Those two answers narrow most of the range.
Is an AMG part different?
Yes. The C63 is cited separately from every standard C class listing.
What is 4Matic?
The all wheel drive system, badged on the trunk lid, and listed with its own front number.
Why do some numbers begin 520?
It is a different family within the same catalog, not a different kind of part.
Do I need a press?
On parts of the range yes. Check your own car before assuming.
Why did I not hear it sooner?
The cabin insulation is very good, which masks early bearing noise.
Should I replace both sides?
Only what is worn.
