A wobbling front wheel on a riding mower is one of those repairs that looks trivial and then turns into an afternoon. The reason is almost always sizing, not skill.

What is actually in the wheel
A plain bushing is a sleeve of bronze, sintered metal or plastic. It has no rolling elements. It simply slides on the spindle.
A ball bearing has an inner race, an outer race and balls between them. It usually carries a flange to locate it in the rim.
Push mowers and cheaper riders use bushings almost universally. Better riders and zero turns often use sealed ball bearings from the factory.

Why lawn mower wheel bearings wear out so fast
A mower wheel sees clippings, dust and sand constantly. Most bushings have no seal at all to keep any of it out.
Add the side load from every tight turn and the bore ovals out rather than wearing evenly.
You notice it as a wheel that leans, wanders or scrubs. On a rider it also shows up as an uneven cut. Deck height is set by those wheels.

The sizing trap

Read the second and third rows together. A one inch hole will not accept a bearing measuring 1 3/8 inch across. That is why the upgrade so often stalls.
Either the rim needs opening up, or you need a rim built for bearings, or you stay with bushings. Guessing at the parts counter wastes the afternoon.

It measures 5/8 inch bore by 1 3/8 inch outside diameter by 7/16 inch wide, and it turns up across mowers, karts and carts.
It is the imperial cousin of the metric 6202, and it is commonly listed as 6202 5/8 or 6202 10 for that reason.
If a bearing is already fitted, the number is usually stamped on the face of the outer race. Reading it beats measuring it.

Bushing or bearing
The upgrade is worth it on a machine that gets real hours. A sealed ball bearing tolerates grit far better than an open bushing does.
It is not worth it on a push mower. The load is tiny and the bushing costs a few dollars. The rim will not take a bearing anyway.
One honest caution. A sealed bearing in a wheel that gets pressure washed will eventually take water past the seal, because sealed does not mean waterproof.

Fitting them
- Measure the spindle with calipers rather than trusting the manual, since spindles wear.
- Measure the rim bore too, because that decides what will physically go in.
- Drive the old one out with a socket that matches the outer race, never the inner one.
- Press the new one in square, pushing only on the outer race so the load does not pass through the balls.
- Check the spindle for grooves, and replace or sleeve it if it is worn undersize.
Years of a loose bushing turning on a spindle wear the spindle down. A new bearing on an undersized spindle is loose from day one.

Grease
Bushings on some machines have a grease fitting, and those genuinely benefit from a pump now and then.
Sealed ball bearings do not. There is no way in without wrecking the seal. Packing the wheel cavity around them achieves nothing.
