Why there is no wheel bearing break in period
Some components genuinely need a break-in. Brake pads transfer material to the rotor, and piston rings wear to match a bore.
Its clearances are set during manufacture, to a few ten thousandths of an inch, and it is sealed at those settings.
Nothing is supposed to wear into anything. Wearing in is exactly what a bearing spends its life avoiding.
So the honest position is that a correctly made and correctly fitted bearing should be quiet from the first mile.
What can legitimately change in the first miles
Two things, and neither is really a break-in.
Grease redistributing. Factory grease sits where it was packed. The first miles move it into the running paths, and that can be slightly noisy.
Surfaces seating. On a serviceable tapered set the cones settle into their cups, and the adjustment can change slightly. That one has a real response.
Adjustable bearings should be checked after the first short drive, because seating can introduce a little play.
Sealed hub units have no adjustment, so there is nothing to recheck on the bearing itself.

What people mistake for break-in
Three things account for most of it, and none improve with time.
The wrong corner was replaced. The original noise is still there because its source was never touched. That is on the still humming page.
The bearing was damaged going in. A hammer through the rolling elements dents the raceways, and the noise starts immediately and grows.
Something is rubbing. A bent dust shield makes a scrape that has nothing to do with the bearing, covered on the scraping page.
Dents in a raceway are permanent. Every revolution runs the elements over them and breaks more material away.
A noise that is growing over the first few hundred miles is the clearest possible sign of this, and waiting only adds miles to a part that is already finished.
What genuinely needs rechecking
Not the bearing. The things around it.
- Lug nut torque, after 50 to 100 miles, because the wheel beds against the hub face.
- Tapered bearing adjustment, after a short drive, on any serviceable setup.
- Hub temperature compared against the opposite corner after the first proper run.
- The ABS light, which may take a drive cycle to appear if a sensor was disturbed.

Driving style in the first miles
A fair question, and the answer is undramatic.
There is no need to baby a new wheel bearing. It is at full capability immediately, unlike a brake pad or an engine.
A gentle first few miles is still sensible. That is so you can hear whether the job went well, not because the bearing needs it.
