The short version

  • A Vue wheel bearing splits on ABS fitment at both ends on the earlier vehicles.
  • 513189 is cited for the front with four wheel ABS and 513190 without. The rear is 512229 with and 512230 without.
  • From 2008 the listings consolidate to 513276 at the front and 512358 at the rear.
  • The two generations are different vehicles, so establish which you have before ordering.

Saturn sold two quite different vehicles under this name. The earlier one was its own design. The later one was a rebadged Opel with a General Motors drivetrain.

The ABS split on the earlier vehicles

Antilock braking was optional

On 2002 to 2007 vehicles, 513189 is cited for the front with four wheel ABS and 513190 for cars without it.

At the rear the pair is 512229 with ABS and 512230 without.

The encoder ring the speed sensor reads is built into the bearing seal, so a vehicle without ABS never needed one.

That is on the ABS light page.

The flange shape trap next door

The Saturn Relay splits on flange shape

The Relay of the same era is cited with 512246 for a three hole triangular flange and 512309 for a four hole rectangular one.

That is worth knowing because it is the only place on this site where the flange shape, rather than its bolt count, decides the part.

The Dodge Charger splits on bolt count, which is the closest relative of that trap, covered on the Charger page.

A closed badge with a live supply

General Motors wound Saturn down in 2010, which makes people assume parts will be scarce and expensive.

They are not. These are shared components still supplied in volume, and the Outlook shares 513277 with the Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse.

The make overview is on the Saturn page.

How to check for ABS

Watch the dash at startup for an ABS light that comes on and then goes out. That is the system testing itself.

You can also look for a sensor wire running to the hub. A vehicle without the system leaves the hub bare.

Fitting a non ABS hub to a vehicle with ABS will light the dash on the first drive.

Diagnosing a Vue wheel bearing

  1. Establish the generation, since 2008 changed the vehicle.
  2. Confirm whether it has ABS on an earlier one.
  3. Weave at road speed and note which side loads the noise.
  4. Rock the wheel at twelve and six.
  5. Rule out the tires before buying a hub.

Those are on the checking page and the tire noise page.

Common questions

Which Vue wheel bearing do I need?

Establish the generation, then check ABS on an earlier vehicle. Confirm against your own part.

How do I tell if it has ABS?

Watch for the dash light at startup, or look for a sensor wire at the hub.

What happens if I fit the wrong one?

A non ABS hub on a vehicle with ABS lights the dash immediately.

Can I still get parts for a discontinued make?

Yes. These are shared General Motors components supplied widely.

Are the two generations really different?

Yes. The later one is a rebadged Opel rather than the original Saturn design.

Do I need a press?

No. These use bolt on hub units.

Should I replace both sides?

Only what is worn.

About this page

Wheel Bearing Editorial Team The Wheel Bearing Editorial Team researches, builds and edits wheelbearing.net. Every part number on the site is transcribed from manufacturer and distributor catalogs (Moog, Timken, SKF, National, BCA/NTN) rather than generated, and every vehicle page is checked against the catalog rows before it goes live. When two catalogs disagree, the page shows both readings and tells you to match the old part or the VIN. More about how this site is built.
