The short version

  • One chart covers every plastic-bodied Saturn: the SL1 wheel bearing numbers serve the SL, SL2, SC coupes and SW wagons alike.
  • Front: the 510024 press-in with its 518514 hub repair kit, 1991 to 2002.
  • Rear: 512002 with ABS, 512000 without, same years.
  • Simple parts, huge production run, permanently cheap.

Saturn built one small car for eleven years under half a dozen badges, and never touched the wheel bearings. Whatever S-Series you own, this page is the whole story.

One family, three numbers

510024 front, ABS decides the rear

The SL1 wheel bearing up front is the 510024 press-in, with the 518514 kit adding hub hardware when the flange is worn.

The rear asks one question: 512002 with ABS, 512000 without.

Checking for ABS on these

Optional, and often absent

ABS was an option many buyers skipped, so 512000 is the common rear.

Key on, watch for the amber lamp during the bulb check, or look for the sensor wire at the rear drum.

The press-in front on a budget car

Familiar economics: the bearing costs little, the pressing costs labor. Pull the knuckle yourself and pay a shop only for press time, and the whole job stays proportionate to a car worth four figures on a good day.

That route is on the press service page, methods on the press-in bearing page.

Where the family went next

The Ion replaced this car on GM’s Delta platform with completely different bearings, on the Ion page. The make story is on the Saturn page.

Diagnosing an SL1 wheel bearing

  1. Check for ABS before ordering a rear.
  2. Weave at speed and place the hum.
  3. Rule out tire drone on this very light car.
  4. Inspect the front flange to choose kit or bare bearing.
  5. Rock each wheel at twelve and six.

The routine is on the checking page and the tire noise page.

Common questions

Which SL1 wheel bearing do I need?

Front, 510024 press-in. Rear, 512002 with ABS or 512000 without. Every year, every body.

Do SL2, SC and SW models differ?

No. The whole S-Series family shares this chart.

Do I need a press?

For the front, yes. The rear hubs bolt on.

When do I want the 518514 kit?

When the front flange comes out worn or damaged. Inspect and decide.

Are parts still easy to find?

Extremely. Saturn built millions of these, and the numbers remain stock items.

Does the L-Series sedan share these?

No. The bigger L-Series runs its own 510052 front and separate rears.

About this page

Wheel Bearing Editorial Team The Wheel Bearing Editorial Team researches, builds and edits wheelbearing.net. Every part number on the site is transcribed from manufacturer and distributor catalogs (Moog, Timken, SKF, National, BCA/NTN) rather than generated, and every vehicle page is checked against the catalog rows before it goes live. When two catalogs disagree, the page shows both readings and tells you to match the old part or the VIN. More about how this site is built.
