The short version

  • Every Neon wheel bearing up front is press-in: 510032 for 1995 to 1999, 510057 for 2000 to 2001, 510058 for 2002 to 2005.
  • First generation rears split by stud count: 512021 with four studs, 512023 with five.
  • The 2002 to 2005 front, 510058, is the same bearing the PT Cruiser uses.
  • Rears are bolt-on hubs: 512013 for 1998 to 1999, 512167 for 2000 to 2005 including the SRT-4.

Count the wheel studs before you order anything for a first generation Neon. Chrysler built these with four studs or five depending on brakes and trim, and the rear hubs do not interchange.

The stud count trap

Four or five studs on 1995 to 1997 vehicles

The rear hub is 512021 with four studs and 512023 with five, and the front hub repair kits split the same way.

Nothing about the model year or trim name tells you reliably. Look at the wheel.

From 1998 the rears consolidate: 512013 through 1999, then 512167 for every 2000 to 2005 vehicle. That last number covers the SRT-4 too, turbo or not.

The front always needs a press

Ten years, one design choice

Chrysler never gave the Neon a bolt-on front hub. Every front Neon wheel bearing presses into the knuckle.

Plan on pulling the knuckle, or on paying a shop to press the bearing while you handle the rest.

The method is on the press-in bearing page, and what shops charge for just the pressing is on the press service page.

The PT Cruiser connection

The 510058 front bearing is shared with the Chrysler PT Cruiser right through 2010. That keeps the part cheap and everywhere, years after the Neon itself left showrooms.

One catalog lists a tapered set for the 2002 to 2005 front instead of the ball bearing. Retail listings and the other catalog agree on 510058, so treat the tapered listing as the outlier and match what comes out of your knuckle.

Diagnosing a Neon wheel bearing

  1. Count the studs on a 1995 to 1997 vehicle before ordering rear parts.
  2. Weave at speed and listen for the drone shifting side to side.
  3. Rock the wheel at twelve and six.
  4. Rule the tires out, since worn tires mimic bearing hum on light cars.
  5. Decide who presses the front before you take anything apart.

The checking routine is on the checking page, and the tire question is on the tire noise page.

Common questions

Which Neon wheel bearing fits my front?

By years: 510032 to 1999, 510057 for 2000 and 2001, 510058 for 2002 to 2005. All press-in.

Is the SRT-4 different?

No. It shares 510058 up front and 512167 at the rear with the ordinary car.

How do I know if I have four or five studs?

Look at the wheel and count. On 1995 to 1997 vehicles the rear hubs differ by exactly this.

Can I use a PT Cruiser bearing?

Up front on a 2002 to 2005 vehicle, yes, it is the same 510058. Match numbers, not badges.

Do I need a press?

For the front, yes, every year. The rear is a bolt-on hub.

What does the successor use?

The Caliber replaced this car on a different platform with its own parts. It has its own page.

About this page

Wheel Bearing Editorial Team The Wheel Bearing Editorial Team researches, builds and edits wheelbearing.net. Every part number on the site is transcribed from manufacturer and distributor catalogs (Moog, Timken, SKF, National, BCA/NTN) rather than generated, and every vehicle page is checked against the catalog rows before it goes live. When two catalogs disagree, the page shows both readings and tells you to match the old part or the VIN. More about how this site is built.
